The Film

Clementine’s room is her haven and her safe space, but as the night goes on and her mind challenges her further, she must face her insecurities and leave the cocoon she has created for herself.

Clementine is a young girl who struggles with her mental health. She greatly enjoys spending time by herself in her room and indulging in her hobbies. Some of her hobbies include video games, movies, and tv. She uses the escapism of these mediums to find refuge from her daily life. She is a sweet girl who struggles with insecurities and shyness. She decorates her room to act as an extension of herself, using it as a cocoon to escape from the outside world. Her issue is that she never evolves within the cocoon, and can’t find herself to be the butterfly that she needs to become.

The film progresses over the course of one night Clementine spends in her room, with her experiences ranging from loneliness, euphoria, and a cold check-in with reality. Clementine will learn to move forward in life rather than reminiscing on the past and present. The story of the film is told primarily through visuals, utilizing very little dialogue throughout. This is a one-woman story and therefore symbolism and cinematography must be used to inform the viewer of Clementine’s thoughts, emotions, and motivations. The film is intimate, personal, and hopefully challenging through its creation and dismantling of Clementine's (and by proxy the audience’s) comfort.
